President and Chief Executive Officer
Chris Fanning was named SSI’s President and Chief Executive Officer in June 2012. Fanning joined SSI in February 2012 as President and Chief Operating Officer and brings more than 25 years of experience in executive leadership, strategic planning and operational roles within technology companies. He most recently served in a variety of roles at Lattice Semiconductor Corporation including CEO and General Manager. Fanning also worked for six years at The Boston Consulting Group in its Chicago office serving a broad range of clients in consumer, industrial, and technology industries.
Fanning earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Boston College, a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Business Administration degree from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Chief Financial Officer
Rick Essex is Chief Financial Officer of SSI. He has been involved with the company since 2005 as a member of the board of directors and joined the company full time as CFO in 2012. He has extensive experience in finance and accounting, holding varied and progressive roles across private equity, investment banking and public accounting. Prior to joining SSI, Essex most recently served as a Principal at Providence Equity Partners, the world’s largest sector-focused private equity firm, focusing on investments in media, communications, and information services. Prior to Providence, he served as a Vice President at BCI Partners and held positions with Dillon Read (now UBS) and Arthur Andersen.
Essex earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Washington and Lee University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University.
Senior Vice President Sales, Americas
Jim joined SSI in November, 2015 as Senior Vice President of Sales for the Americas. In this role, Daxner is responsible for managing SSI’s full business and client portfolio in North America and Latin America.
Jim came to SSI with 24 years of sales and executive management experience at the Affinion Group, Inc. where he held progressively larger roles in the organization since joining in 1991. Prior to joining SSI, Jim held the role of Executive VP, Membership, Financial Institutions at Affinion. Earlier in his career at Affinion, Jim was responsible for managing various business and product units across operations including product development and sales management.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from DeVry University.
Chief Product Officer
Bob Fawson is Chief Product Officer at SSI. Prior to SSI, he served as Chief Access, Supply and Engagement Officer at Opinionology, which later joined with Survey Sampling International to form SSI. While at Opinionology, Fawson expanded the company's portfolio of online sampling methods and improved methods for managing online panel inventories. Known for his expertise across diverse topics – from panel recruiting and sample routing to Address-Based Sampling – Fawson is a frequent speaker at market research events. He first joined Opinionology to manage its online client service and project management teams.
Fawson earned a Masters degree in Political Science and a Masters degree in Applied Economics from Utah State University.
Chief Customer Officer
Michel is Chief Customer Officer at SSI, working with SSI’s global business teams to provide the best experience to SSI’s Customers and help them grow and be successful.
Before taking on that role in January of 2017, he has been in charge of SSI's fast and steady growth in Europe for over 11 years, creating 11 SSI offices in 9 countries across the continent. During that time, on top of his Managing Director role in Europe, he also spent one year developing SSI's APAC business, and two and a half years leading SSI's Professional Services organization.
Prior to joining SSI, Guidi was Vice President of Operations at Ciao for over five years, based in Madrid – making him a 17-year online data collection veteran. Previously, he worked as a management consultant at A.T. Kearney, and a junior brand manager at L’Oréal.
Guidi earned a Master of Business Administration degree from ESSEC in Paris.
Chief Marketing Officer
Andy Jolls joins SSI from Instantly. Prior to his last company, Zumbox, Andy served as chief marketing officer at Cooking.com (acquired by Target Corp.). He has held senior level marketing positions at MyFICO.com, a division of FICO (NYSE: FICO) and Move, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOVE), and he began his career in product management at Apple and Hewlett Packard.
Jolls has an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan.
Chief Information Officer
Troy Lauritzen is SSI’s Chief Information Officer. Before SSI, he was the CIO at Opinionology. While at Opinionology, Lauritzen was responsible for online survey research, including best practices for online research panels and management. He also significantly contributed to the development of Opinion Outpost, Opinionology's online research initiative. During his tenure at Opinionology, Lauritzen served a variety of key functions, including Director of IVR Services and Director of Technology.
Lauritzen earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from Brigham Young University.
Managing Director, Asia Pacific
Mark Lepine is Managing Director for the Asia Pacific region. He is responsible for all sales and operations for SSI in the Asia-Pacific region including, Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining SSI, Lepine was a regional director for Forrester Research building its infrastructure and business in Hong Kong. Before Forrester, he led a firm that enabled western companies to establish businesses across Asia Pacific. Mark is based in Hong Kong.
General Counsel and Secretary
Ashlin Quirk joined SSI as General Counsel and Secretary in 2012. She has almost 20 years of legal experience, specializing in privacy and advertising/marketing law for the last 13 years of her career. Immediately prior to joining SSI, Quirk was Privacy and Data Protection Counsel for MasterCard responsible for ensuring legal compliance with applicable privacy laws in connection with MasterCard’s global marketing initiatives.
Quirk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University.
Chief Human Resource Officer
Mary Rusterholz has served as SSI’s Chief Human Resource Officer since 2012. Prior to joining SSI, Rusterholz spent 14 years with Affinion Group, a $1.4B global industry leader in affinity marketing based in Stamford, CT. She held the role of Executive Vice President, Support Services from 2002-2012, responsible for global human resources and facilities management, supporting 4,500 employees across the US and 12 European countries; and Senior Vice President, Human Resources from 2000-2002. Before Affinion, Rusterholz spent 14 years with French-owned group DANONE in their US Water Division as Vice President Human Resources, and within the Dairy Division, where she held multiple roles including Manager of Organization Development, charged with driving efficiency in structure and process.
Rusterholz earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Human Resource Management from Pace University, New York.
Mark Slobbe is the SVP of operations at SSI. He held several roles in operations in London and Madrid and in 2009 moved up the ranks to operations director Europe. In 2012 Mark moved to the US where he was responsible for leading operations for strategic partnerships and in 2015 took on the responsibility for the end-to-end project management team in North America. Before SSI, Mark worked for 5 years at GDCC managing the professional services team.
Mark holds an MBA from INHolland, The Netherlands and studied Social Cultural Anthropology at the VU in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Managing Director, Europe
Chris Watson is Managing Director for the European region based in London, England. He is responsible for all sales and operations in the EU regions including Benelux, France, Germany, the Nordics, Southern Europe and the United Kingdom.
Prior to joining SSI in 2010, Chris was a director at Ciao Surveys responsible for offices in Holland and the United Kingdom. Previously, Chris ran his own full-service agency following time spent within KANTAR.
Chief Technology Officer
David Zotter is the Chief Technology Officer at SSI. He has more than 15 years of experience in information technology related to marketing research, including more than a decade working with online technology approaches. Before SSI, Zotter was Chief Technology Officer for GfK Custom Research North America (formerly NOP World). Prior to that, he served as Director of Research and Development at Greenfield Online. Before joining Greenfield, he was Manager of Interactive Product Development at NFO Worldwide and InsightExpress.
Zotter earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University.
